Bio

John P. O’Regan is Professor of Critical Applied Linguistics at UCL Institute of Education, University College London, UK. He is also Deputy Director of the International Centre for Intercultural Studies. In his research John specialises in English as a global language, intercultural communication, and critical discourse analysis. John has lectured and taught in many countries. Most recently, his main international work has been as a visiting professor in Vietnam, Hong Kong and Chengdu. John is also a past chair of the International Association for Languages and Intercultural Communication (IALIC) and a former editor of the international journal Language and Intercultural Communication. He is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and has published four books. His best-known work is Global English and Political Economy (O’Regan, 2021). John was born in Hong Kong and is passionate about Chinese cuisine. Cantonese and Sichuan are his favourites.
